The Jeep Wrangler has dominated the 4×4 SUV market since the arrival of the first Wrangler and they don’t plan to stop any time soon. Some would say that the Wrangler’s strong position in the market was handed to Jeep as there are no real competitors in the segment.

The last time Jeep had to fight hard, it was when the Ford Bronco was still around. The latter then went missing before the start of the second millennium and this gave the Wrangler a free pass in sales for over two decades.

In that period of time, we have seen the Wrangler getting plenty of upgrades but they all come in small numbers thus suggesting that Jeep is milking as much cash from the 4×4 as possible. If this is the trend is to continue with the next-gen Wrangler come Q4 this year, the 4×4 is at risk of losing its streak.

We say so because Ford has confirmed on the Bronco’s return and they promised to go all-out with the iconic SUV. Ford said that the Bronco will be designed for extreme off-road performance that combines the latest technologies with a traditional body-on-frame structure.

The details are being saved for 2018, which is when Ford is expected to pull the curtains off the next-gen Bronco. After two decades of being an absentee, we can expect Ford to go all-out with the next Bronco. As such, any underwhelming offerings on the next-gen Wrangler can end up being disastrous for Jeep.
